Community of Friends has been providing stockings and backpacks to SPIN children associated with the Scattered Site Family Emergency Shelter (SSFES) program for five years. This program is based in Lynn and provides temporary apartment-based housing for homeless families. Currently, there are 53 families (104 children) living in these clean and safe housing units. June

Sunday, June 18th:
At 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 18th, Community of Friends sponsored an adult Kickball game between the B&S Fitness Marblehead and Salem Bootcampers. Even though the competition was fierce, the Salem Booters came away with a 13-7 impressive victory. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Brandi & Steve Dion of B&S Fitness (www.bnsfitness.com) for their support in organizing this event. And a big thanks to Betsy and Ron Caliri for the "Betsy Bombers" shirts from X-treme Silk Screening (www.x-tremesilkscreen.com).

Each team raised $450 and were able to donate $900 to Community of Friends. CoF will use this generous donation in two ways. 1). Help fund the 2007 Backpack drive. 2). Feed children of the Mary Jane Lee Park from "The Point" neighborhood in Salem with breakfast, snack and lunch for one week. The Mary Jane Lee Park Summer Program provides these underserved children with a local playground filled with supervised activities and essential nourishment.

This program is desperately under-funded and essential to keep these kids fed, safe, and active during the eight weeks of summer. If you would like to help, you can make a donation to:

"Friends of Mary Jane Lee Park"
Saint Joseph's Food Pantry
P.O. Box 876
Salem, MA 01970

ps. These are the children that will be receiving the "Salem" backpacks.
